Chemical Pathology

The Master of Science in Medicine in the field of Chemical Pathology is a research degree.

Overview


Chemical Pathology is a branch of pathology dealing with the biochemistry of disease processes and the measurement of metabolites present in bodily fluids to facilitate diagnosis.

The Department of Chemical Pathology is part of the Wits School of Pathology.

Curriculum


The degree consists only of a 2-year research component, including laboratory work and requires a submission of a dissertation or thesis at the end of the programme.

Entry Requirements


A Bachelors degree of at least four years duration or a Bachelors degree followed by an Honours degree. A 65% mimimum average is preferable.

A supervisor from the Department of Chemical Pathology must be identified and approached prior to application.

Approval letter from the respective supervisor(s) and Head of the Department to be attached with the application.
